Fitness Program Reviews

Posted by Kenny On July - 12 - 2010

Exercise plays an important part in fitness programs. These programs also include a balanced diet that improves health. Fitness programs that concentrate on weight loss have to be carefully scrutinized. Today, health clubs offer a wide range of fitness programs. The success rates of most programs are positive but it is important to consider long-term implications of these programs on the health of an individual. Various studies and research have been conducted to scan the efficacy and safety of these programs. Many of the health authorities have done extensive studies on them and reviews have been published. These authorities have analyzed components of fitness programs and they are clinically tested before being certified.

Fitness programs such as “low carb diets” had been on controversial grounds for a long time. They are now deemed safe, except for persons with kidney problems. Reviews have also indicated that these plans are especially effective on a short-term basis. They are effective in bringing down cholesterol levels in heart patients. It is also noticed that fitness plans that are administered in consultation with a doctor are much safer and known to render long-term health benefits. Fitness programs that consist of a combination of exercises such as cardio muscular exercises and yoga are beneficial for maintaining good mental and physical health.

In recent times, fitness programs have become a part of every individual’s life. They increase immunity levels of an individual and also increase productivity. The dependence on machines has caused decreased muscle mobility. Fitness programs ensure that all body organs are tuned for better performance. Due to increased inactivity levels, individuals are more prone to diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Studies have proved that a good fitness program can be the first step towards good health. Fitness programs that have been proved successful and safe are the best options.

For more and more people, home exercise and fitness rowing equipment has become a must-have item. The range of gym fitness rowing equipment available these days is staggering, and it can be hard to know which type of home exercise equipment you really need. Whether you’re involved with running a commercial health club, or you’re an entrepreneurial fitness coach looking to start your own personal training studio, or you’re a home owner looking to build your home gym with quality equipment, you can get sometimes get commercial grade fitness rowing machines at a fraction of the cost.

While in the past it may have been standard advice when purchasing home strength training equipment to buy a multi-station gym, the latest concept in the fitness industry however is functional training and functional training fitness rowing equipment. When choosing home fitness exercise equipment, you need to concentrate on the three s-areas: strength training for muscle toning, stretching for flexibility, and sprinting or a related activity for cardiovascular fitness.

Life Fitness F3 Advanced Treadmill Review

Posted by Kenny On July - 12 - 2010

The Life Fitness F3 Advanced treadmill is probably one of the sturdiest folding treadmills you’ll find on the market. With most folding models whilst you get the convenience of easy storage there is always just a slight sway at the top speed. With the F3 you get an absolutely solid deck that feels cemented to the floor. Life Fitness don’t generally do folding machines – but when they do they certainly get it right.

The F3’s pre-set programmes include the classic workouts such as hill and interval training plus four heart rate controlled workouts to get you into the fat-burning zone. Heart rate programmes alter the speed and incline depending on your pulse and are the best way to maximize the benefits of your session. The Advanced model has more functions than the Basic console for about

A Fitness Model Routine

Posted by Kenny On July - 11 - 2010

Given the choice, would more people find a bodybuilder or an fitness model more physically appealing? In my opinion, the bulk of those questioned would answer that the fitness model is far and away the more attractive of the two. So it can make you wonder, why are people wasting their time doing workouts designed to give that bodybuilder appearance? Wouldn’t it be better to emulate a fitness models workout routine to develop lean, defined muscles? So the next thing to consider is what would an fitness model workout look like?

There are two critical components to any fitness routine: diet and exercise. Each one plays a role in achieving the fitness model look. While diet is best for reducing fat, exercise is the most reliable way to gain lean muscle. You should effectively combine both of these important elements into a multi-phase routine in order to create that sculpted fitness model look.

Step 1: Lose Fat, Gain Lean Muscle
In my opinion, the defining features of an fitness model are six pack abs and lean, dense muscles. I think it’s best to focus on getting six pack abs before working on increasing the size of your muscles. Achieving six pack abs requires a blend of a fat blasting, tough workout regimen with a stringent diet. Such a workout should include low volume repetitions of strength training through the use of heavy weights. It’s best to shoot for 4-5 sets of 3-5 reps without training to failure. Always stop one rep short of fatigue.

Here are some exercises I recommend:

Chest: Bench Press, Incline Press
Back: One Arm Row, Weighted Pullups
Shoulders: Standing Shoulder Press, Seated Shoulder Press
Biceps: Straight Barbell Curls, Sitting Dumbbell Curls
Triceps: Closed Grip Bench Press, Weighted Dips
Abs: Planks, Renegade Rows

You can split these exercises into a 2 day routine that you perform twice weekly for a total of 4 workouts per week. While your muscles may appear smaller in size, they will be tighter, stronger, and more aesthetically pleasing; they won’t look soft like a bodybuilder’s. You’ll notice that I did not include any direct leg training above. Remember – you don’t want to get those big, thick legs that you see in bodybuilders – fitness models just don’t have them. It is my firm belief that your legs will become sufficiently lean through workouts incorporating high intensity interval training (HIIT).

It is important during this initial phase to include HIIT. A HIIT regimen done correctly will cause rapid fat loss.

Finally, do not underestimate the importance of diet. There are only so many hours in a day to workout at such a level of intensity. Incorporating a diet plan in addition to exercise is what will truly cause quick fat loss. Use whatever works for you – daily weight monitoring, calorie tracking or even intermittent fasting – be sure you are consuming a calorie deficit.

Step 2: Gain Muscle Without Gaining Fat
Once you have completed the first steps and have realized fat loss sufficient to create defined abdominal muscles, the next phase may begin. The objectives you have set in a broader sense will determine how you should approach the next phase. If you simply want to quickly increase the size of your muscles, you can perform a weight lifting routine to “shrink wrap” your muscles while maintaining the same calorie restrictive diet. If you want to add a lot of muscle mass, then you can gradually begin eating more calories. Be careful not to eat too much though as you can only really add so much muscle without gaining fat.

Anyone attempting to add muscle mass will need to undergo a workout plan that forces you to push yourself to exhaustion. Perform high repetition sets and ensure that you completely fatigue your muscles on each exercise, instead of performing low repetition sets. Someone hoping to gain a large amount of muscle mass over an extended period will need to slowly transition from pushing to the point of exhaustion, and then back to simple strength training all over again. You will be stuck with that puffy, soft bodybuilder look if you continue to train your muscles to fatigue. At that point, you need to revert back to low rep, heavy weight strength training to get lean, defined muscles.

The Fitness Model Physique
The above information indicates that a fitness models workout must constantly work on achieving and maintaining fat loss while also gaining muscle size and tone. A prototypical fitness model routine is likely to incorporate high intensity interval training as a fat loss tool, along with strength work to achieve denser, more toned muscles. Such a plan will result in a lithe, sporty appearance. Once you have reached this goal, your workout could then switch to a program that will help you bulk up with some muscle gain, or work to tighten the muscular appearance with a “shrink wrap” routine. Anyone who trains to the point of muscle exhaustion for an extended period of time will at some point need to return to the low repetition, heavier load type of strength program in order to prevent development of the undesirable, softer look often seen in bodybuilders. Overall, I’d encourage you to set aside the bodybuilding approach and embrace a fitness models workout routine.

Life Fitness Ellipticals are Among the Best

Posted by Kenny On July - 10 - 2010

The Life Fitness company makes six different models. They are the Life Fitness Elliptical X3, the Life Fitness Elliptical X3i, the Life Fitness Elliptical X5, the Life Fitness Elliptical X5i, the Life Fitness Elliptical x9i, and the Life Fitness Elliptical Sports Cardio SX30. These machines are at the higher end of ellipticals and the Life Fitness ellipticals are of the highest quality. The down side of the Life Fitness ellipticals is the warranties
could be better for the price you are paying. The last model mentioned the Life Fitness Sport Model gives you a lifetime warranty on the frame, two years on the parts, and one year on the labor. All the other models mentioned above have the same warranty, lifetime on the frame, two years on the parts, and one year on the labor.

The Life Fitness ellipticals X3, and X3i, are at the lower end of the six models. They are built very durable and are under three thousand dollars. The X3i has four more programs than the X3 and is slightly better. The Life Fitness X5, and the Life Fitness X5i, have something called the Select Stride, which means that you can select from four different settings, sprint, run, jog, and walk. These ellipticals may last a lifetime, they are built that well. They are amoung the heaviest ellipticals made, so after they are
put together, don’t plan on moving them often. The Life Fitness X9i has eighteen programs and seven personal programs. The quality is said to be that of a commercial gym machine. This is one of the absolute best elliptical that money can buy. These ellipticals are quiet and very stable units.

The last model, the Life Fitness Elliptical Sports Cardio SX30 is at the lowest end that the Life Firness company makes. It is an average elliptical trainer at best and so if you are considering this model you may also want to check out other competitive makes.

All things considered it’s hard to top the quality and value of Life Fitness Ellipticals.

Bridal Fitness Plans

Posted by Kenny On July - 10 - 2010

You have got the ring on your hand, the dress picked out, not it is time to get your body looking the way you want for your wedding day. All brides want to look their best as the walk down the aisle and it is more than possible to transform your body so you look better than ever.

It is time for your bridal fitness plan, the layout of what you need to do to get the body you want for your big day. Trust me, I understand, my wedding is in just 2 months and my bridal workout is well underway.

First off, when should you start your exercise plan and diet? Well, your exercise plan should start now! No time to wait, and it should not stop when you say “I do” but continues on as part of your lifestyle.

Your diet is one of the hardest things to get under control, and personally I do not condone quick fix calorie cutting diets. Instead like exercise, it should start now and start with making positive changes in your diet… stop eating processed foods, fast foods, fried foods, and junk foods. Start eating all natural, “clean” foods for fast fat burning results. Plus get more energy… we both know how tiring it is to plan a wedding; improve your skin and hair, and improve your lifestyle. Again, not a diet but a lifestyle you can carry on.

But back to the workout. There are two important ingredients to fast result workouts. Strength training and cardio. Both are important and neither can be neglected. But the cardio isn’t what you think, for best results choose intervals. Intervals burn fat 5 times as much as steady state cardio… and it’s intense. Intervals 3-4 times a week is perfect.

Lifting weight is the queen bee of fat burning and possible the most important element of your workout plan.. It increases metabolism, tones and tightens and takes your body to the next level. I love doing supersets of big total body exercises like squats, lunges, push-ups, shoulder presses and even pull-ups. The bigger the move, the bigger the calorie burn.

The bottom line is that it is a lot easier to get started today then try to drop fat a few weeks before the big day now. You will be more relaxed and more likely to keep your workouts as part of a lifestyle.

Rip-off Fitness Fads

Posted by Kenny On July - 9 - 2010

I was reading a health and fitness forum the other day and saw what has to be the worse case of a fitness rip-off that I have come across. It was an exercise machine, which admittedly was fantastic to look at, but it came with a price tag of USD15,000. The manufacturers claim was the most worrying thing though – that it could get you fit with just 4 minutes of exercise per day. The four minute routine really consisted of 2 minutes of rowing, followed by two minutes on a stepper. With a price tag of USD15,000 you would expect to do a full body workouts, but all that seemed possible, judging from the demonstration videos, was rowing and stepping. An equivalent rower would be a basic Sculling Hydraulic Rowing Machine, which costs around GBP120/USD250, and a simple stepper costs about the same amount. So for GBP250/USD500 you could have everything that the machine for USD15000 offered.

This got me thinking. How many other fitness fad rip-offs are there out there? I have been a member of a large commercial gym, that provided almost no guidance, tuition or motivation from the staff. I also know that all large commercial gyms rely on people joining and not attending. If every gym member went to their gym twice a week there would always be lengthy queues for the machines, showers, swimming pool and saunas. To me, these gyms are a rip-off – they take our money, knowing that they cannot server everybody, and therefore do nothing to actually encourage people to workout more, or to reach their goals. The gyms make money because people fail year after year to actually lose weight and get fit!

But what else is there that is a real rip-off. By this, I mean something that the manufacturer knows will not actually do what they claim it to do. I am not sure how they get away with it really, as I would have thought that the advertising standards authority would stop the adverts, but maybe there are different rules in different countries.

Expensive equipment and health clubs are not the only rip-offs though. There are so many different supplements and fad diets, plus eBooks on the internet, plus detox diets, stupid vibration plates and the such like, all of which to some extent or another will not do what they claim to do so, at least not without a lot of hard work.

But what can we do about it? People will always look for a quick fix, whether it be a piece of machinery that claims to give them washboard abs in 2 weeks, or supplements that will make them look like Mr. Universe in a month, or a new diet fad that will allow them to lose all their fat and still have the energy to stand up at the end of it. Would the world be a better place if we had a list of all the ripoff fitness fads, diets and machines? Will I we be sued if we called the products a rip-off, or can we only give a bad review? And who are these people that keep giving good reviews? Can the claims be tested? One machine claims to give a full workout in 4 minutes, stating that the quality of a workout is solely dependent on oxygen consumption during exercise, and that their machine will lead to increased oxygen consumption. Sounds a bit far fetched to me. 60 minutes circuit training, or 4 minutes on a stepper / rower. What do you think is best?

Schwinn Airdyne Fitness Bikes

Posted by Kenny On July - 8 - 2010

Schwinn Airdyne exercise bikes have been around for quite some time, with a lot of advancements made to the design over the years, but it remains a tried and true example of excellent fitness equipment.

Its longevity in the exercise equipment market comes from two things. The first thing is that it had a really innovative design for its time. At the time of its release, most stationary bikes had handlebars that remained in the same place, just like a regular bicycle. The Airdyne instead had two arms that worked as levers connected to the flywheel. This allowed the user to also get an upper body workout by using the resistance of these arms.

The second innovation that the Airdyne had was its fan flywheel. Most stationary fitness bikes prior to this had a regular wheel that turned, this model instead had a flywheel driven fan that provided air circulation and also was geared to increase resistance the harder the rider pedaled. This would provide the rider with a more rigorous workout.

The other quality that has caused this model to be in existence for so long is the quality of the construction. The Schwinn Airdyne is built to last. In fact, you can still find many of the originals that are in really good working condition. You will notice that these older models have a speedometer and an odometer. The newer models have digital monitors that monitor heart rate, distance, speed, and calories burned.

The build of these exercise machines is sturdy which can make them hard to move, but they have small wheels on the frame that allow them to be moved when you find it is needed. They are known to produce some noise when they are in use and stir up air in the surrounding area, but most see that as a small matter when you consider the durability and design of this fitness bike.
