MMA Fighter Kills Friend – Jarrod Wyatt Faces Charges

Posted by Kenny On June - 2 - 2010

WARNING: This story is not suitable for children.

Jarrod Wyatt, a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter, is being charged with beating and killing Taylor Powell. Sources have said that Powell was not a pretty sight afterwards. His heart and tongue were removed, and his face was beaten to the point where he was hardly recognizable.

Wyatt (pictured left) was said to be under the influence of various drugs when he drilled an 18 inch hole into Powell’s chest.

Wyatt says that Powell was the devil and that he was trying to eliminate satan. After killing Powell, Wyatt threw his remains in a wood stove, because he thought Powell was still alive.

“My client was trying to silence the devil,” says Wyatt’s lawyer. Wyatt will face charges for first degree murder.

Personally, I believe Wyatt needs to go to a maximum-security prison and locked up for the rest of his life. It’s clear he suffers from a psychological problem and we simply can’t have people like this on the streets – the way I see it there’s no other option. What are YOUR thoughts? Post a comment below.

  1. John Said,

Cases like this raise some complicated issues.

On the one hand, if what Wyatt says is true, and he really didn’t know what he was doing or for that matter INTEND to harm a human being, it’s not really fair to punish him as a murderer.
Either the requisite mens rea didn’t exist, or else he

Of course, on the other hand, the REASON he didn’t know what he was doing (if indeed he didn’t) was his choice to self-administer hallucinogenic drugs. There’s been a long and acrimonious debate in the law as to whether self-induced intoxication should ever be allowed as a defense.

Anyway, since his “insanity” was self-induced, I imagine he’ll be convicted of murder.

  2. John Said,

Oops. I should have proof read that.

What I mean to say is that either the requisite mens rea didn’t exist (i.e. his intoxication rendered him incapable of forming an intent to kill) or else he did not know at the time that what he was doing was wrong (because he thought he was killing a demon).

Assuming either of those things to be true, it’s, again, not really fair to punish him as a murderer.
…All else being equal, that is.

Things aren’t equal, partly because he was acting like a drug-fueled maniac because he was–voluntarily–a drug-fueled maniac.
It’s hard to excuse a person’s behavior, however involuntary it may have been, on the grounds that he was too drunk or otherwise self-inducedly twisted to know what was going on.

  6. John Doe Said,

I feel for both of these guys. One time I ate quite a bit of mushrooms with some friends and it ended up turning into a very, very bad trip. The beginning was very much similar to these guys beginning (world coming to an end and seeing his friend as the devil). However, it was my choice to take a chance and I knew I would be responsible for my actions. I was lucky and didn’t have anything happen to me other than a very long and dangerous bad trip. If I were to have killed my friend that night I don’t know how I would be able to live with myself. He should and will go to prison for a very long time. He will also be screwed up way more than he already is for the rest of his life. Another case of somebody who can’t handle their drugs.

  7. Some guy Said,

Anyone on enough hallucinogens will behave as if they’ve lost their sane mine. That’s what hallucinogens do, you see things that are not there and believe things that are not true.

This is an awful situation all around. I’ve had a bad trip on mushrooms and decided I was insane and was going to kill myself. If I hadn’t of decided to wait until the morning to see if I was still insane I’d have been dead six years ago.

Another friend of mine believed he saw the devil and he was trying to get him to kill himself. Had he not also been drunk he might have committed suicide.

What cracks me up is all you anti drug lobbyist (no I’m not saying I support illegal drug use) don’t even know that DMT (I think it is) is one of the most powerful hallucinogens known to man. And guess what, it’s in your fucking brain. It’s what powers dreams.

Anyone reading this ever had a crazy dream and done awful or seen awful things in their dreams only to wake up startled but relieved it was a dream?

Before any of you go off about what he deserves, think about your most awful nightmare, then position yourself where you’re not asleep but awake and everything that is happening is real and right in your face. What would you do? Who wants to die in real life if they don’t want to die in their dreams?

Sure he deserves punishment. Drug rehabilitation for one, with massive amounts of therapy because he just killed his friend. If it was the drugs that made him this way I don’t care if he’s walking around the streets I just want to be damn sure he’s sober when he is.

We’re all guilty of having dreams that we’d never want to be true, had you been able to move around in your sleep who knows what you might have done acting on those hallucinations.

Throwing an MMA fighter in prison just sounds like more problems will arise which will likely result in his death. Any man who wishes death upon another is the one who deserves to be in prison…keep that in mind when you blurt out you want him behind bars where people are murdered every day by other actually disturbed individuals.

This animal should get the death penalty. He put the drugs in his system, this was a very disturbing crime, one we can not even understand to comprehend. A man like this does not belong in society “ever”!

  10. KDUBBLL Said,

He could have sold his soul for his petty fame, and one consequence is opening the door to demon possession, especially under the influence(pharmakeia).he actually performed a Mayan(satanists)ritual where they rip a still beating heart out of a persons chest and offer it to the gods(demons/fallen angels).he also threw the organs in the oven, which would be a burnt offering. In my eyes there’s no doubt he was possessed.

  11. Lucifer Said,

It’s all religion’s fault. He was trying to kill the “devil”. Hallucinogen or not, if society didn’t foist religion on people as a whole, there would have been no “devil” to kill. Hahaha, aaah I’m only kiddin. No, but seriously… religion is a joke. Believe in yourself.

  12. laura Said,

Actually I have done tons of mushrooms myself and know tons of other people who’ve also had loads of shrooms. You don’t get violent on them at all.

Truth is the guy was a psycho WAITING to happen and unfortunately halluconogenic drugs *could* potentially bring out that side of a persons psyche. Honestly I dont kow anyone who’s gotten violent but I’m not saying it doesnt happen – whether drugs should be blamed I’m not sure. yes they may have pushed the envelope but between his haircut and chosen hobby…come awn he doesn’t scream well balanced memeber of society does he?

Possessed my arse – talk about an excuse to behave badly.

  13. Bryan Said,

i’ve taken shrooms 10 times and had great trips everytime. didn’t think it was even possible to have a bad trip.
well that was proved wrong a couple weeks ago when i went into this crazy hole during a trip where i told my friend for 4 hours straight that i was going to kill myself. obviously i made it out but it was the single scariest thing thats ever happened to me. I’m lucky i made it out alive. The point is i have a lot of sympathy for this guy and its too bad it ended up this way.

    RIP to his friend
